{"content":"Air India Flight 171 - a Boeing 787 Dreamliner - crashed in western India with 242 people onboard, marking the first fatal crash of the aircraft model.
The 787 has had its share of glitches before (like, “door might blow off” kind of glitches), but until now?
No fatal crashes. That record’s gone.
This comes while Boeing is still trying to mop up the mess from 2 earlier 737 Max disasters that killed 346 people.
The company just struck a deal with the U.S. Justice Department to avoid criminal charges - as long as it admits it obstructed safety regulators and writes a big check.
And in case you missed it: last year a Boeing engineer warned that parts of the Dreamliner’s body might not be fastened properly - like, the kind of not-fastened that could split open mid-air.
Boeing said it wasn’t an “immediate safety of flight issue.”
Guess what’s not aging well.
CEO Kelly Ortberg had called 2025 Boeing’s “turnaround year.”
Now? Stock’s down 8% and the headlines aren’t about profits - they’re about wreckage, lawsuits, and lives lost.
